The Littlest She-Hulk Green Velvet Cupcakes

It's been six months since something sugary and floury has popped out of my oven. What have I been doing instead of cutting out cookies and frosting cupcakes, you ask?
  1. Lifting heavy things and putting them back down. A lot
  2. Adapting my eating habits to suit my exercise routine. Goodbye veganism, hello meat
  3. Trying not to let my teaching career drive me absolutely nuts
  4. Running in my first races. First 5ks then, just for the hell of it, a 10k
  5. Fully embracing the full extent of my nerdiness
Let's talk about that last point. But, I warn you. It's really nerdy. Like, embarrassingly so.

So, Mr. C and I have taken up a new hobby. Something we've actually thought about for a while now, but weren't brave enough to admit it to each other until very recently. Yes, we play D&D. We watch Geek & Sundry. We still debate over who would win in a fight, Deadpool or Boba Fett. But this is far nerdier.

We got into cosplay.

Not, like, dressing up as purple foxes or Sailor Moon in drag or anything. Don't worry. We worked for three months on some really awesome costumes (I'll share later on, I promise) and made our first appearance at Emerald City Comic Con. This was our first convention and it blew our minds.  We were absolutely flabergasted with the experience. I got to meet Bruce Timm, my favourite cartoonist of all time. Mr. C laughed his head off at Paul and Storm's ode to George RR Martin.

The best part of it all was seeing the real talent that surrounded us. There were so many awesome costumes, and I'd like to show you every one of them, but this is a bakery blog. So you're probably waiting for more cupcake picture and a recipe. Just hold your horses. We'll get to that. But first, you've got to meet this little lady:

Now, this isn't our photo - it belongs to the lovely CoreGeek. But, when we saw this shining star, we were so floored that I forgot to turn on the camera. In case you didn't notice, that girl is not only wearing a Hulk muscle suit, but also a purple tutu.

Seriously. How awesome is she?

Cosplay is a little complicated. There is a large percentage of people out there who are very strict about who or what they want to dress up as. They much rather choose characters they look like over characters who they love. Yes, Mr. C and I will never venture very far away from pale red-heads or plucky blondes, but we loved seeing people cosplaying at all different shapes and sizes. So what if you're a skinny Wolverine. Or a short Thor. Or a Harry Potter who just happens to be in a wheelchair. You're dressing up as what you love. More power to you.

That's why we should takes notes out of the Littlest She-Hulk's book. Bruce Banner was not a small African American child. Nor did he wear a dress. But who cares? That girl had the time of her life smashing through the con. So should we. Come on, guys. We're all geeks for godsake. Let's just have a blast.

To celebrate this awesome nerdling, we took on one of most favourite recipes and reworked it a little. We also Hulked it up a bit.

Keep on smashing, you crazy little diamond.

I am in favor of dressing up in costume as much as possible. I own about 20 wigs. Cute cupcakes!
