Game of Thrones: Dothraki Blood Pie

Do you remember playing Junior Monopoly? The one where you had to buy up rides to create the most badass amusement park ever? Or Guess Who? The one where you had stare at twenty of the ugliest faces ever illustrated by the gaming industry? Or Sorry? The one where you were allowed to be a total dick to your friends?

Man, tabletop gaming sure has changed.

Settlers of Catan Cupcakes

I remember back when I was a bright eyed, bushy tailed nerdlinger in university. The world of geekdom had just opened up to me - I started reading comics, got pulled into MMORPGs, and discovered the world of D&D. Before, all these things were out of my reach. Being president of my high school drama club got me abused enough; I don't think I would have won any popularity contests if I admitted that I religiously watched Next Gen or Mystery Science Theatre.

In university, I found a set of people who loved what I loved. Discussed things that I was passionate about. Played and laughed at games that were so cool, yet so absolutely ridiculous. Finally, I felt like I could pin my nerd badge onto my coat and wear it proudly.

Nowadays, geek citizenship is becoming even more widespread. Thanks to movie reboots and social media, we've got new generations of Trek, Who, and X-men fans. Being a nerd is cool. And you can feel at home almost everywhere.
